Sailing Itinerary: Dubrovnik & Southern Adriatic
June 9, 2025
Introduction
Croatia’s Dalmatian Coast is a sailor’s dream: a seamless blend of history, natural beauty, and Mediterranean charm. Starting and finishing in Dubrovnik — the “Pearl of the Adriatic” — this one-week itinerary takes you through idyllic islands, peaceful anchorages, and vibrant coastal towns. Whether you’re an experienced skipper or a first-time charter guest, this route offers a perfect mix of relaxation and exploration.

Day 1: Dubrovnik to Šipan (Approx. 15 NM)
Kick off your journey from Dubrovnik’s ACI Marina. After provisioning and a safety check, set sail for Šipan, the largest of the Elaphiti Islands. Just a couple of hours away, Šipan welcomes you with olive groves, quiet harbors, and a laid-back vibe. Moor in Šipanska Luka and enjoy a waterfront dinner of grilled fish and local wine.
Highlights: Sunset over the Adriatic, fresh seafood at Konoba Kod Marka.

Day 2: Šipan to Mljet (Pomena) (Approx. 20 NM)
Head northwest to Mljet National Park, a lush, forested island with tranquil saltwater lakes. Anchor near Pomena and rent bikes or walk to explore Veliko Jezero and the 12th-century Benedictine monastery on St. Mary’s Island. The entire island is a haven of peace and nature.
Highlights: Swimming in saltwater lakes, kayaking, cycling through pine forests.

Day 3: Mljet to Korčula (Approx. 20 NM)
Sail to Korčula Town, often called “Little Dubrovnik” for its fortified medieval layout. It’s believed to be the birthplace of Marco Polo, and it’s packed with charm. Moor in the marina just outside the old town walls and spend the evening wandering cobblestone alleys and enjoying local wines like Pošip or Grk.
Highlights: Korčula Old Town, wine tasting, traditional sword dance (Moreska).

Day 4: Korčula to Lastovo (Approx. 25 NM)
Time to leave the crowds behind. Head south to Lastovo, part of a protected nature park and one of the most remote inhabited islands in Croatia. The anchorage in Zaklopatica Bay is stunningly quiet, perfect for stargazing and swimming in crystal-clear waters.
Highlights: Seclusion, snorkeling, authentic Dalmatian cuisine at waterfront konobas.

Day 5: Lastovo to Okuklje (Mljet) (Approx. 30 NM)
Start your return journey with a scenic sail back toward Mljet, this time anchoring in Okuklje, a small, sheltered bay on the island’s northern side. This peaceful village is ideal for a relaxing afternoon and a home-cooked meal at a family-run restaurant.
Highlights: Calm anchorage, warm hospitality, amazing seafood pasta.

Day 6: Okuklje to Dubrovnik (Approx. 25 NM)
Begin your final leg with an early morning departure from the peaceful bay of Okuklje, giving yourself time to enjoy the scenic cruise back along Mljet’s rugged coastline. As you approach Dubrovnik, the city’s iconic walls rise from the sea — a breathtaking sight from the deck. Once docked at ACI Marina, take the opportunity to explore the Old Town if you haven’t already: stroll along the ancient ramparts, wander limestone streets, and savor a farewell dinner in one of Dubrovnik’s elegant restaurants. It’s the perfect way to close out a memorable week on the water.
